IIT’s Harvesting Excellence for India;  IIT or the Indian Institute of Technology is the finest ever Engineering and Technical branch institution in India. At present, there are 24 IITs in various parts of the country that are known for providing excellent level technical education to young minds both at Graduate as well as at Post-Graduate level. Definitely, IITs are harvesting excellence for India, as they are framing up and creating best minds out of the selected few to produce some quality intellectuals for the world, but primarily for India.



Any student who is a citizen of India and has passed Class 12th with at least 75% aggregate marks is eligible to study in IIT after passing via a rigorous selection process for the admission in the same. However, for Post Graduate studies, Strictly Engineers are eligible who appear for GATE annually. Students of all genders, categories, castes etc, even those disabled, can furnish quality education from here.


IITs practice a very orderly, hectic and Innovative way to select the most talented students out of the crowd of Millions of 75% above scorers in Class 12th. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted annually by IITs in which a screening exam called JEE-Main is conducted by CBSE. Here, about 1.3 Million students give away the MCQ type 360 marks paper in 3 hours. Only top 2 Lakhs are selected to give the second and most vital stage of the selection process for admission. These students give away JEE-Advanced which is a very hectic type 6 hours paper set by one of the selected IIT. The paper is qualified by around top 25 Thousand students who take admission in 11000 seats of IITs for graduation. The admissions are done purely on the basis of AIR (All India Ranks) obtained by the candidate in the JEE-Advanced exam.


IITs offer B.Tech course, the most popular one in about 15-17 streams, like ECE, EEE, CSE, ME, etc. IITs also offers M.Tech in about 13-15 streams like CSE, Civil, Chemical, etc. Master of Science is another degree offered in about 7-8 streams like Chemical, Civil, Environment, etc. Also, Ph.D. is given to the Post Graduates in about 17-18 streams like CSE, ECE, ME, Physics, Earth Sciences, etc. So overall, about 4-5 courses are provided by IITs including MBA in some selected IITs on the basis of CAT score.

Branches and Zones

There are 24 IITs and 7 Zonal IITs that are the oldest, the finest and that divide the country into seven zones during JEE-Advanced and GATE exam. They are in Bombay (Mumbai), Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras (Chennai) and Roorkee. The other IITs are there in Jammu (J&K), Ropar, Mandi, Jodhpur, Gandhinagar, Varanasi (BHU), Patna, Dhanbad, Indore, Bhilai, Kharagpur, Bhuvaneshwar, Hyderabad, Goa, Dharwad, Tirupati and Palakkad (Kerala). They have total about 11000 seats for Under Graduate and about 2800 seats for the M.Tech course.


IITs are institutes of national relevance along with NITs (National Institute of Technology) and IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology). IITs Practice a very sharp, rigid and rigorous education pattern for its pupils. They constantly check there academic and co-curricular performance and warn and further expel them if they find students unable to catch up with their pattern or way of studies. Researchers are also carried by IITs which have proved very helpful for Indian societies many times. The most brilliant faculty, advanced government aided facilities, best infrastructure and technology, and their competitive atmosphere help them to extract the best out of a student. IITs are the premier universities providing top class placements to their graduates even before they become Engineer, who is not only intelligent but genius, which is definitely a point of great importance.
